Cladospirone bisepoxide is a selective antibiotic commonly used as an antifungal and antimicrobial agent which inhibits the germination of|Lepidium sativum|and suppresses the growth of several microorganisms. It has been reported that cladospirone bisepoxide, a member of the spirobisnaphthalene family is produced by the fungus|Sphaeropsidales|via a common biosynthesis pathway that is used to produce other spirobisnaphthalenes. In addition, evidence suggests that cladospirone bisepoxide is derived from a polyketide precursor via polyketide synthase (PKS). Furthermore, studies show that the biosynthesis of cladospirone bisepoxide can be inhibited using tricyclazol .
