Cochliodinol is an antibiotic metabolite of|Chaetomium cochliodes|and|C. globosum.|Shown to inhibit the metabolism and growth of a variety of bacterial genera. Also shown to inhibit some species from many genera of microfungi. Cochliodinol is the first reported asterriquinone structure isolated from|Chaetomium|species. Asterriquinone is an antitumor metabolite, and thus cochliodinol has been reported to exhibit antitumor activity.
