AG 1387 is a 5-iodo analog of tyrphostin AG 555 that displays anticancer and antiviral properties. More cell-permeable and potent than AG 555 as an inhibitor of protein tyrosine kinase and DNA topoisomerase I (TOPO I). Unlike camptothecin (sc-200871), which works by binding to and stabilizing the topoisomerase-DNA covalent complex, AG 1387 inhibits the DNA relaxation activity of TOPO I by interacting with and preventing its binding to DNA. AG 1387 also blocks and prevents murine AIDS (MAIDS) development by affecting viral and/or cellular targets.
