In yeast cells, doxycycline has been used in doxycycline-inducible system for overexpression of methyltransferase Hmt1 (hnRNP methyltransferase 1).It has been used in the doxycycline-inducible IFITM (interferon-induced transmembrane) cell lines.It has also been used as an antimicrobial agent.

Doxycycline is frequently used to treat Lyme disease, chronic prostatitis, sinusitis, pelvic inflammatory disease acne, rosacea, and rickettsial infections and prophylaxis of anthrax (caused byBacillus anthracis). It is also effective againstYersinia pestis. Treatment with doxycycline inhibits collagen synthesis.Doxycycline hydrochloride has been used for the induction of shRNA expression and induction of expression vectors.
